Security guard dies after alleged assault at south Auckland supermarket

A security guard has died following an incident outside the Countdown supermarket in Papakura (file photo). A south Auckland security guard has died after being allegedly punched in the head. The guard was taken to Middlemore Hospital after the incident on Wednesday but died early on Thursday morning, Counties Manukau police Inspector Dave Glossop said.

Police have arrested a 17-year-old man, Glossop said. “We cannot rule out the possibility of charges being laid.” Glossop said he was unable to comment further.

“We are supporting the victim’s family and our deepest sympathies are with them at this time.”
