PD: Homeland Security involved in shooting in Mesa, 1 dead
MESA, AZ – Mesa police say all agents are OK after members of the Department of Homeland Security were involved in a shooting with a suspect on Tuesday afternoon. Homeland Security investigators on scene tell ABC15 one person is dead following the shooting. The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. near Alma School and Broadway roads.
According to police, agents from Homeland Security’s investigations division were conducting an investigation in a parking lot in the area.

Police say as they were contacting a suspect, there was an unknown altercation which led to federal agents to fire their weapons.
“There was an altercation of some sort between those two and during that the officers, at some point, must have felt threatened,” said Detective Steve Berry, Mesa Police Department spokesperson. According to police, a suspect was struck by gunfire. At this time, Mesa police have not confirmed to ABC15 the condition of the suspect who was shot.
No Mesa police officers were involved in the federal investigation which led to the shooting.
This incident marks the 36th shooting involving law enforcement in the Valley in 2018.
