Police release CCTV image after security guard is robbed at knifepoint in South Shields

Police investigating a knifepoint robbery in South Shields have released a CCTV image of a man they want to trace. On Tuesday, a security guard was robbed outside Barclays Bank in King Street by a man brandishing a weapon at around 11.45am. He snatched a cash box being carried by the G4S courier and fled the scene on foot.

Police said the guard wasn't injured but was left shaken by the incident. Officers are now searching for the suspect who fled the scene on foot, accompanied by another man. On Wednesday, Northumbria Police released a CCTV image of a man who they believe could help with their investigation.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Officers are carrying out inquiries and are keen to the speak to the man pictured as its thought he was in the area at the time and may be able to help with inquiries.

"The man, or anyone who knows who he is, is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101 quoting reference 322 130218."
