'Provide CCTV footage related to attack on Piyush'

The Judicial Magistrate Court No. III directed the Salem Central Prison authorities to provide the closed circuit television (CCTV) footage connected to the alleged attack on activist Piyush Sethiya inside the prison to him. Mr.

Sethiya and two of his associates were arrested on July 8, 2016 for opposing the construction of flyover at Mulluvadi Gate. They were lodged in the Salem Central Prison. Mr.

Sethiya, after his release on bail, alleged that he was beaten inside the prison by the authorities on July 8 and 13, 2016. He moved the court seeking action against the prison authorities who allegedly attacked him. Later, he also submitted a petition seeking CCTV footage of both the days and health records under Section 91 of Evidence Act.

Security problem The prison authorities refused to provide the footage saying it would lead to security problem. A.Shanmuga Priya, Judicial Magistrate No.

III, set aside the original petition seeking to file an FIR, and numbered the petition seeking CCTV footage separately.

The JM, passing the final order on Friday on the petition, directed the prison authorities to provide the CCTV footage to the petitioner.
