Fremantle has confirmed they are investigating an incident that is understood to have occured around 11:45pm on Sunday night. "The club is aware of a matter involving a player outside a licensed premises in Fremantle on Sunday," the Dockers said in a statement. "The club is making enquiries and will be in a position to comment further when that process is completed."
Patrons at the nightclub took video of what they claim is Bennell wrestling with security guards at Club 189 in Fremantle. A long battle with calf injuries and off-field problems has seen Bennell only play two games in his two seasons at Freo since moving from the Gold Coast. The former number two draft pick played 81 games at the Suns, but found himself in trouble several times, most notably when photos of him with a white substance went public in 2015.
This latest incident saw the 25-year-old miss the Dockers' first training session back after Christmas and casts doubts on his future at the club.
