Fire detection and alarms qualification now open for booking
FIA training Bookings are now open for the Fire Industry Association s (FIA s) fire detection and alarm qualifications. Launched over the summer the course equips students in designing, installing, maintaining, and commissioning fire detection and alarm equipment. The courses are equivalent to an A-Level and will result in a certificate upon completion.
We have designed these courses following the syllabus set by the newly formed Fire Industry Association Awarding Organisation, said Michael Gregg, the FIA s training manager. We have put together a robust set of classroom based learning days that will aid learners in their development not just in preparing for the examinations, but also in a way that aims to improve their overall knowledge and understanding of the knowledge and concepts presented. The FIA developed the qualifications in a bid to formalise the career path of a fire alarm engineer and to combat the severe and growing skills crisis in the sector. You can only book the first unit (the foundation in fire detection and alarms), the successful completion of which will open up the other units. The units become steadily more challenging as the course progresses. When you book your place on the first unit via the FIA s training channel you ll receive a unique learner number (ULN), with which you can track your progress and book further units. The new qualifications have been hotly anticipated and we are expecting a large volume of bookings to come in, said Michael Gregg. For that reason, we recommend booking as soon as possible, as spaces on each course are limited by class size. Courses, which comprise four units, can be undertaken in a number of locations across the UK.
