My life as an apprentice in the security industry: Divya Hansora, CSL
Few organisations in either the security industry or beyond have been more energetic in promoting apprenticeships than CSL. The alarm signalling company, which launched the 100 in 100 initiative that gave rise to Apprentices for Security, regularly champions them as a key solution to the growing skills gap in the security industry. Divya Hansora, a customer service specialist at CSL, has benefited from the brand s embrace of apprenticeships.
Having recently completed an apprenticeship with the Uxbridge-based company, she told IFSEC Global about the impact it s had on her career. IFSEC Global: How is your apprenticeship going? Is it an effective way to get into a career in your experience and why? Divya Hansora: Completing my apprenticeship allowed me to get first-hand experience of what it s like working within the industry. I ve been able to gain countless qualities both in the work and training environment. Doing an apprenticeship allowed me to get my foot in the door and I believe this has enabled me to start my career. IG: What does your role at the company cover? My role varies from customer support to IT support, mainly the former where I assist alarm installation engineers with queries and issues on the product we manufacture. IG: What is CSL like as a company to work for?
DH: CSL is great to work for, mainly the people! The people at CSL are very diverse, informed and appreciative of my hard work. They have supported me in a way that has helped me achieve my apprenticeship with ease and allowed me to understand the industry. IG: What does it mean to be shortlisted for the Asian Apprentice Awards? DH: Being shortlisted was quite a surprised. I didn t expect to be nominated, let alone being shortlisted! It s nice to know my work has been recognised and I am looking forward to the event. embedded content IG: Where do you see your career taking you in five years time? DH: Ideally I would like to complete another qualification.
If this is through another apprenticeship with CSL or completing a part-time degree, I would like to specialise within the industry and continue learning on the job. IG: Anything else to add about apprenticeships, your career or the security industry generally? DH: Apprentices in the security industry are a great idea. Being an apprentice in the industry has helped me appreciate the way I never appreciated security. It has allowed me to gain an understanding of why security is key to life and also allowed me to achieve a qualification which I may never have without the A4FS Scheme.
