Bill Matthews appointed acting chairman at the SIA Lord Taylor of Holbeach has announced that Bill Matthews is now the acting chairman of the Security Industry Authority. Matthews succeeds Baroness Ruth Henig, whose term of appointment came to an end yesterday (after two full terms in office), with the decision on the Baroness’ replacement having been made following a formal recruitment campaign. The appointment is for one year, and Matthews’ main responsibility will be leading the Security Industry Authority (SIA) through the transition to a business licensing regime.

Bill Matthews began his career as an engineer with Motorola, leading to a 15-year career in operations, marketing and senior management roles. Following a subsequent period in the SME sector, he developed a portfolio of non-executive roles in the public and private sectors. Matthews has worked in criminal justice and law enforcement since 2004, including roles as a member of the Management Board of the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service and the Scottish Police Services Authority.

He became the Scottish Board Member of the Security Industry Authority in 2008 and has worked closely with Scottish Government on the successful implementation of regulation. Matthews holds degrees in engineering, psychology and business administration and is a member of both the BBC Trust and the British Transport Police Authority. Speaking about the new appointment, Home Office minister Lord Taylor said: “I’m pleased to announce the appointment of Bill Matthews as acting chairman of the SIA.

I’m sure that he will bring his energy and experience to this vital and challenging role as the SIA moves towards a new regime based on the regulation of businesses.

The Home Office will begin the recruitment process for a permanent chairman in due course.

RIM attracts 15,000 apps for BlackBerry 10 in two days | Fire and …

It s starting to look like the BlackBerry store will be well stocked with apps when Research In Motion launches BlackBerry 10 at the end of this month.

The company held an event over the weekend where it offered app developers incentives to port their programs to the BlackBerry 10 platform and managed to attract 15,000 app submissions.

Well there you have it.

The port-a-thon event was held in two parts.

One was aimed at Android developers and the other at apps written in other platforms, including Appcelerator, Maramalade, Sencha, jQuery, PhoneGap and Qt.

RIM was offering US$100 for each app ported and subsequently approved for sale in the BlackBerry 10 app store, up to certain limits. Developers could also win BlackBerry 10 development handsets and a trip to RIM s BlackBerry Jam Europe developer event.

Research In Motion is due to launch the BlackBerry 10 OS and unveil the first handsets to support the platform at a news conference in New York on Jan.

Position Summary: The APD Regional Security Director is an integral part of LS&Co s worldwide security and brand protection teams. The APD Regional Security Director s primary focus is to respond to, and reduce, corporate security risks in Asia Pacific.

The Director serves as the principal contact in Asia Pacific for security analysis, travel safety, executive personnel protection, and a broad range of investigative matters, including diversion and counterfeit investigations.
