Synergis and SALTO locks integration means our customers can cost-effectively replace mechanical locks, says Genetec

integration Genetec Synergis the IP access control system of Security Center now supports SALTO SVN-enabled locks, Genetec has announced. SALTO s standalone battery-operated locks, which are now available through Genetec s global reseller network, can now replace traditional mechanical locks on doors and entrances that might have otherwise been too expensive to network with wired or wireless locks. Harnessing RFID (radio-frequency identification) technology escutcheons, electronic cylinders, locker locks, electronic padlocks and other SALTO locks can communicate with a central server through a smart data-on-card system.

The keycard contains all access data. An offline standalone door, locker, cabinet or server rack can writes data like access rights, blacklist information or battery status back onto a card, which then relays this data back to Synergis via online wall readers, thanks to two-way communication. The integration also means that Synergis access cards and locks can now be updated, restricted or deleted remotely. Customers who rely on traditional mechanical brass keys for interior openings like doors, cabinets and lockers are all too familiar with the tremendous costs and loss of time associated with rekeying and lock reprogramming, says Derek Arcuri, access control product marketing manager at Genetec. The integration between SALTO SVN and Security Center Synergis unlocks an opportunity for customers to efficiently heighten their security without the added expense of adding network access to each interior opening. The SALTO range of SVN-supported locks includes the cost-effective XS4 range of escutcheons, electronic cylinders and the entire SALTO platform. For customers who wish to include offline locks in their managed access control infrastructure the only option was until now to replace these standalone locks with more expensive hard wired or wireless options. The SALTO SVN-enabled locks are not only priced similarly to traditional locks, but they can now be integrated and managed within Synergis through the movement of SALTO SVN smartcards, says Bill Wood, president of Salto Systems, North America. The SALTO XS4 platform is available immediately through Genetec and its certified global network of resellers.

Genetec develops open-architecture software, hardware and cloud-based services for the physical security and public safety industry.

The video surveillance report 2017

Cybersecurity, open platforms, 4K, low-light cameras, video analytics and warranties The Video Surveillance Report 2017 builds on the success of two previous reports in 2015 and 2016 on the same subject also sponsored, like this report, by global surveillance leader IDIS, the largest manufacturer in South Korea. This time round there was one subject in particular that we d have been neglectful to ignore: cybersecurity. Integration with other buildings systems, a spate of breaches including the hijacking of network cameras during the 2017 presidential inauguration and the spectre of more punitive fines for data breaches under the forthcoming EU data protection law (the GDPR), is sharpening minds across the supply chain as vendors, installers and security professionals scramble to strengthen their cyber defences.

Based on a poll of hundreds of security professionals, The video surveillance report 2017 also examines video analytics, ultra-low light cameras versus thermal cameras, demand for 4K, the value of warranties and more.

Redvision previews fast, accurate, silent PTZ and customisable camera housing ranges

Video surveillance Redvision gave its customers and industry professionals a sneak preview of its latest innovations with the help of a top magician last night. The UK-based manufacturer of high-end video surveillance cameras unveiled the Valant, a PTZ camera that Redvision says moves faster, more accurately and more quietly than anything else on the market. It also gave invited guests a first look at Vega, its customisable camera housing.

Both ranges will be launched officially at IFSEC International 2017 between 20-22 June (get your free badge now ). Apart from hors d oeuvres and prosecco, attendees were treated to some impressive tricks by entertainer and magician Nick Einhorn. The cameras were even deployed as Einhorn s assistants, with a thermal camera helping him avoid a nail through the hand in one audacious trick. In another, a Valant swiveled stealthily and picked out from among many playing cards stuck to the walls about 30 feet away the very cards chosen by members of the audience (the identity of which they had obviously kept to themselves). Popular with high net worth individuals and critical national infrastructure, Redvision cameras are very much pitched at the premium end of the market and last night you could see why. The clarity of the images and accuracy of the movement were both evident, as was the complete absence of motorised sounds when they swivelled into position. The Valant even remembers and reverts to its correct position if knocked out of position. The Valant will be available in standard, adaptive IR and adaptive white light models. In a market with so little aesthetic variety, Redvision s rugged, customisable housing is an intriguing innovation.

The Hampshire-based company plans to customise the housing to specifications by customers in a wide range of markets. Guests were also shown a special feature video that showcased the cameras capabilities. The innovation that accounts for the quietness has more than just an auditory benefit. Infinity motors, which are magnetically driven, could also reduce total cost of ownership because there is less contact between moving parts and therefore less wear and tear. The event took place at headquarters of IFSEC International s parent company, UBM, in Southwark, central London. The Valant and Vega ranges will be launched and on display at IFSEC International, 20-22 June 2017, London ExCeL. You can find Redvision on stand D1150. Get your free badge now. Genetec releases latest version of off-street parking enforcement software Free-Flow

Security Center During the 2017 International Parking Institute (IPI) Conference and Expo, Montreal-headquartered Genetec will demonstrate the latest version of Free-Flow, its off-street parking enforcement software. Genetec, a provider of open architecture software, hardware and cloud-based solutions for security and public safety, will be at booth number 1115 at the IPI conference and expo in New Orleans on 24 May. The company is also exhibiting at IFSEC International 2017, Europe s largest security exhibition, at London ExCeL, between 20-22 June.

Free-Flow will be offered within Genetec Security Center, the company s holistic security platform that combines video surveillance, access control and automatic license plate recognition. Using AutoVu Free-Flow, parking enforcement officers can identify lots with unenforced violations and then adjust their patrol routes in response to improve the rates at which they record and process violations. Compliance Increasingly parking property owners are choosing to implement gateless parking to reduce vehicle congestion and improve convenience for parking. AutoVu Free-Flow allows owners to maintain compliance with parking rules in the absence of gates. As Free-Flow now forms part of Security Center, parking managers can monitor occupancy and violations across all parking lots under their management, from one location. Genetec Plan Manager is an interactive and graphical mapping application allowing operators to visualise and manage environments. With Plan Manager and Free-Flow in Security Center, parking lot owners can navigate and oversee many car parks via the installed automatic licence plate recognition that is also installed with Security Center. Free-Flow provides parking officers a real-time view of how many vehicles are in parking lots across all their facilities, and how many are parked illegally. With these precise details of where and when violations are taking place, parking managers know where to dispatch officers to ensure higher compliance, says Charles Pitman, Genetec s product marketing manager at Genetec.

All attendees to the IPI trade show are welcome to attend A Pragmatic Look at Big Data: Perspectives from License Plate Recognition , which Pitman is presenting. The first series of updates for Genetec Free-Flow are expected to be available at the end of May 2017 with further updates planned in July 2017. Genetec also recently integrated gunshot detection into Security Center and expanded its access control platform with SimonsVoss e-locks. And Genetec has been confirmed as sponsor of IFSEC International s brand new show within a show , Borders & Infrastructure Expo. STid wins SIA award for Best Access Control Mobile App 2017

Access control IFSEC exhibitor STid will arrive at London ExceL in June fresh from winning a prestigious award for Best Access Control Mobile App. STid, a leader in high-security access control solutions, was awarded the Gold Trophy for the SIA s Best Access Control Mobile App for its STid Mobile ID app. Used in conjunction with STid Architect Blue readers, STiD s Mobile ID transfers the user s access card onto their smartphone to work alongside or replace their RFID card.

Users can open a door by tapping their smartphone twice in their pocket or by simply swiping their hand against the access reader, even during a phone call or if the phone is in a bag. Mobile ID beat 120 other candidates to the accolade. The Security Industry Association (SIA) awarded STid with its Mobile Apps trophy at ISC West in Las Vegas. The STid Mobile ID app has a lot of potential, said one of the judges in their verdict. What truly sets it apart is its user-friendliness. We were impressed with its various identification methods, allowing the user to open a door without getting their phone out of their pocket. This is a real improvement for organisations in search of simplicity and efficiency. STid CEO Vincent Dupart said: This fifth trophy recognises STid s ability to bring advances to the security industry with its non-proprietary, open technologies that make people s lives easier. The award consolidates our objective to develop new solutions to reach new international markets.

STid is one of the leading developers of contactless identification solutions using RFID, NFC and Bluetooth Smart technologies. STid also recently sealed a partnership agreement with Genetec, under which its RFID access control readers would now be available through Genetec s international reseller network. Why electronic access control is seen as an expensive luxury by many small firms

Many small businesses see electronic access control as an exorbitant expense that offers little in the way of benefits. However, this couldn t be further from the truth. Investing in access control provides many benefits for any business not to mention, it s not nearly as expensive as many people who are uninformed on the truth of the industry would have you believe.

To understand why so many small firms think access control is an overpriced asset that is not worth their time, effort, and money, it is important to first understand the reason for this misconception. Why access control is viewed as expensive When many organisations think of security and in particular access control, they think of an over-the-top security system that is (A) unnecessary, as they are unlikely to ever encounter a security breach, and (B) has a hefty price tag. In short, they are thinking of access control measures that have failed to consider risk assessment. The purpose of carrying out regular risk assessments is to determine exactly which types of breaches your business is most likely to be vulnerable to, and consequently safeguard your business against those risks through use of the proper measures. Otherwise, by protecting against vastly unlikely or nonexistent risks, you will be investing in equipment that is unnecessary, ineffective and expensive. By analysing what you are at risk of and protecting against those scenarios, you are ensuring that your business is well-secured, staff and assets are protected and making sure that any investment is spent in the right areas. Does access control have to be expensive? No, not at all. Access control is a reasonably-priced and wise investment as it gives the user full flexibility and with on-going technologies in place, the security levels associated with this are only going to get better.

To make sure that you are not overspending or purchasing the wrong system there are a few things to keep in mind during the implementation process. You need to review the physical, personnel and information security aspects and the risks associated to each element. Despite what you might see or read about the sky-high costs of investing into access control, you will be happy to know that the financial commitment is not actually out of the realm of possibility for most businesses. When starting out your research it is always advisable to speak to a reputable provider of systems and equipment (such as Digital ID) who can fully assess the project and advise on the best approach. Is access control worth it? It is but only when done correctly. This includes everything from researching the right products, installing the system and daily usage. Don t put safety on the backburner; the benefits of having proper security measures in place go on and on, even aside from simply preventing tragedy from striking. Consider some of these unexpected benefits that many businesses experience from implementing access control on their premises that go far beyond simple security.

Enhanced productivity Believe it or not, having higher security measures in place makes employees feel safer in a business and allows them to get much more done in an average day. In short, your business environment can become more productive overall by the simple act of investing in access control. Higher employee loyalty If you have a system in place that is intended to protect both your business and the people who work in it, your employees will take notice that you are concerned about their wellbeing and ensure that their place of work is a safe and protected one. Take our word for it they will appreciate your gesture, and the overall effect will make the office a much happier place to work. Establishes credibility Let s face it, access control being executed in a business just looks downright professional. Anyone who visits your location and sees these security measures will trust that the space is one that is worthy of their trust. Consider investing in access control today As you can see, there are many reasons to give access control a try despite security alone although that is a huge benefit as well. Don t waste any more time not having these measures in place in your business, and start the process of deciding the type of access control that is right for your company today. Visit Europe s leading security event in June 2017 Register here to attend IFSEC International where you will be able to take advantage of our meetings service, allowing you to select and meet with the manufacturers you want to see and with 600 companies exhibiting you are not short on choice.
